Groote Eylandt was first sighted by Europeans in 1632, by the Dutch ship Arnhem, under Willem van Coolsteerdt. However, it was not until 1644, when Tasman arrived, that the island was named.

Supply/LogisticsGEMCO’s Supply team is responsible for the management of the competitive pricing, procurement, transport, receipt, storage and disposal of all goods and materials and services required for GEMCO. The Supply process is a consultative one, including the customers of the service and relevant technical personnel.

Our relationships with suppliers and site customers are fostered and managed with the following common goals:

  • mutual benefit
  • cost reduction and continuous improvement
  • identification and management of risk
  • attendance to GEMCO and BHP Billiton policies and guidelines, including Health, Safety, Environment, Community and Quality standards.
  • adherence to all laws and regulations

Our prime objective is to obtain maximum value from suppliers who have been elected and approved through a Vendor Business & Prequalification process.
