Milner Bay, AlyangulaAt GEMCO, we know that our business affects the communities in which we operate and we continuously strive to achieve Zero Harm. Guided by BHP Billiton’s Sustainable Development Policy Sustainable Development Policy (27.02 KB), we strive to minimise negative impacts and maximise positive outcomes. Partnerships that create sustainable value for everyone are our goal, and we aim to maintain good relationships with our local communities and government agencies.

We respect the traditional rights of the local indigenous people and value their cultural heritage. GEMCO has a very positive relationship with the Traditional Owners of Groote Eylandt. Established over many years, it is crucial to our license to operate, and we work continously to ensure our relationship stays strong and healthy.

GEMCO is committed to employing local Anindilyakwa people and has established a successful Aboriginal Employment Strategy. This program has received national recognition as best practice.
