When a vacancy becomes available, we typically advertise internally via email, posted in workplace areas and the community, on the GEMCO website and BHP Billiton Jobs website, externally via state/territory and/or national newspapers, and other job advertisement websites (eg. SEEK, CareerOne). If you don’t see a current vacancy that suits you right now, we encourage you to visit BHP Billiton Jobs and set up Job Alert which allows you to stay informed about opportunities at GEMCO and BHP Billiton, and save your resume online for submission to future job opportunities. Applying for specific vacancies increases the chances of your success. Of course. We encourage you to apply for any and all positions that match your abilities and career goals. Absolutely. We currently have employees originally from Canada, the United States, South Africa and Papua New Guinea. However, GEMCO does not automatically sponsor candidates who are not authorised to work in Australia. Ideally, you should be authorised to work in the country you would like to work in. If the position has closed and you have not received any acknowledgement of your application from us, you are welcome to contact us to confirm its receipt. We may not have received your application, or we may be having difficulty contacting you. Should you be successful in progressing in the selection process, a Human Resources representative will contact you. All applications and other information gathered for applicants are held until the position has been filled. All documents for unsuccessful candidates are then destroyed in accordance with the GEMCO and BHP Billiton Privacy Policy, unless you have given permission for your details to be held. Typically, we begin to contact referees once a candidate has successfully progressed past the initial interview. We understand that sometimes it isn’t desirable to candidates for us to contact current employers for a reference. However, GEMCO highly values the input of current and recent employers and will ultimately wish to contact them. We recommend you discuss any concerns about contacting any of your referees with your Human Resources representative. At GEMCO, development and progression towards your career aspirations is primarily your responsibility, but you will have help and support from us. It’s a win-win situation for everyone when employees expand and develop their skills. As part of BHP Billiton, there are many opportunities for you to find increasing challenges in different job roles, work areas, operations, even countries.
